Safer Internet Day is just around the corner. On February 9th this year, organizations and companies all over the world will be focusing their efforts on making the Internet a safer place. By doing so we will be making sure parents and others are up to date on the latest online issues and best ways to avoid those issues.
We have compiled a list of the top 9 Internet Safety Tips to help guardians, teachers, teens, and companies have the safest experience when online. Visit the blog throughout this week to read safety tips 1-9.
Communicating is one of the best ways to ensure Internet safety. Create an environment where your child feels comfortable talking to you about anything. By developing this open dialogue, kids can understand the benefits and dangers of using the Internet. Let them know what is expected of them and that what you care about most is their safety; whether they are messaged by a cyber stranger, bully, or receive an inappropriate email, they can talk to a parent for help without being afraid of getting in trouble.
Don’t be afraid to follow-up often and ask them about their online activities. Ask whom they are talking with and what sites they frequently visit.
