Summer is upon us and that means one thing --- LOTS of time spent outdoors and near pools, the beach or water parks. While these activities are a lot of fun for kids, they can wreak havoc on your electronics, especially your smartphone.
Not to worry, we found a few phones that can handle a misting, droplet or complete submersion into the neighborhood pool.

Best known for its edge-to-edge screen, the S8 is also IP68 Rated for resistance to dust and water and the phone will even survive in up to 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes. For owners of the previous Galaxy version, like myself, this will sound familiar. I can personally attest to dropping my phone into a sink full of dish water after a family dinner – with the phone surviving completely unscathed!
The Galaxy S8 is also resistant to splashes and spills and has a high probability of surviving a fall in the pool or tub, though it shouldn’t be submerged.

If you’re not an Android user, don’t worry, Apple has you covered with similar features on the iPhone 7. This phone has an IP67 Rating for resistance, meaning the phone can be submerged in up to 1m of water for up to 30 minutes without damage. This is slightly less depth than the Samsung Galaxy S8, but still a considerable rating for an electronic device.
It should be noted that this phone should not be submerged, but is damage resistant in case of accidental submersion and is resistant to splashes and spills.
This Samsung Galaxy phone is rugged and designed to withstand a slight beating. It has a rugged, non-slip finish so you’re less likely to have it slip through your hands. This phone also has an IP68 Rating, so it can be submerged in 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes without damage. It’s also dust and water resistant, which makes it the perfect tough phone for active users.

Sony has produced a high-quality phone, designed to rival the Samsung versions, with a comparable IP68 Rating. It’s resistant to dust and water and can also be submerged in 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes. What sets this phone apart from the Samsung pack, is the Gorilla Glass 5 on the front & back of this phone. Corning Gorilla Glass is a toughened glass designed to be damage resistant, and while it’s not impenetrable, it will provide an extra layer of safety for your smartphone screen to prevent shattering and scratches.
For those of you not jumping on the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy bandwagon, the LG G6 provides many comparable features. It also features an IP68 Rating, so it can withstand being submerged in 1.5 of water for up to 30 minutes, but it also has Gorilla Glass on the front and back. The front screen uses Gorilla Glass 3 and the back has Gorilla Glass 5 for the utmost phone protection.

The HTC Bolt is a solid device and a good option for families that want to have a splash and spill resistant phone. It features a Gorilla Glass 5 screen, which clears a drop test of up to 5.2 feet without shattering. It also has an IP57 Rating and features a metal body for increased device protection. Like most phones, it’s not designed to be fully submerged, but it can most likely survive an accident.
