Net Nanny for Mac is More than Just Web Protection
Did you know that there are many ways your children can access pornography and questionable content on the Internet? Net Nanny provides full internet safety on not just the World Wide Web, but also less known but equally dangerous parts of the Internet like the Usenet, Peer-to-Peer downloading networks, Chat Rooms, Instant Messages, FTP, Forums and email. If you have never heard of some of those areas of the Internet, it is possible that your kids have. But don't worry. Net Nanny knows about them, and protects your children from the bad content on them.
Overview Screen
Net Nanny for Mac provides an Overview screen which, for each user, displays a summary of their settings and a usage report.
- User information: At the top of the screen, you see the user's name, profile and reporting options. You also see a silhouette for the user, or a photo, if you have set one.
- Filter settings: The middle section shows the current settings for each of Net Nanny's filters. A round, colored icon at the bottom right of each internet filter for Mac icon gives you information on the type of internet filtering taking place: green means there are no restrictions, orange means there are some restrictions, and red means there is no access. Text next to each internet filter for Mac icon give you more information about each filter and its settings.
- Usage report: The bottom section shows a usage report for the user: their last Internet connection, how many web pages they have visited and how many have been blocked, and the types of content that have been blocked.
Remote Management
Net Nanny has enhanced its internet safety administration tools. Powerful Remote Management tools exist to help parents to manage and maintain Internet safety policies from any Internet connection. Monitor web browsing and instant messaging- from anywhere!
IM Alert & Analysis
Net Nanny’s improved internet safety Message Monitor feature examines the content of instant messages (IM) and alerts parents via e-mail to potential online predatory behavior and other inappropriate contacts and comments made through popular IM programs.
Customizable "Allowed" or "Blocked" Lists
Net Nanny permits parents to create a customized list of unacceptable or acceptable Web sites. For example, parents could set up a list (white list) of friendly sites that are always allowed and/or set up a list (black list) of objectionable sites that are always blocked.
Detailed Logs
Full logs of your users' Internet activity. Choose from simple or detailed logs, or only see which sites and applications have been blocked. Logs can also be exported.
Schedule Internet Access
Choose when your children can access the Internet, and for how long. Net Nanny for Mac lets you set a schedule for each of your users, either individually, or as part of a custom user profile. You can offer users unlimited access, set time limits per day, or only authorize specific periods.
Secure Website Filtering/Blocking
Net Nanny will block any attempts to get around filtering by blocking secure proxy and encrypted Web sites. Using secure proxy Web sites is the number one method used by tech-savvy teens to circumvent desktop filters.
Game and Application Blocking
Net Nanny allows you to block applications from installing by disabling external disks and preventing volumes from mounting. You’ll have more control over the types of games, programs and other content. If a game is already installed, Net Nanny gives you the flexibility to block games by restricting access to gaming servers.
Browser Alerts
When Net Nanny for Mac filters block access to web pages, or when a user attempts to view sites that are listed in the Blocked Sites tab, the program displays a warning in their browser, saying that Net Nanny has blocked the page.
Alerts are also displayed when an application or a protocol is blocked from a user.
Configuration Assistant
The Net Nanny for Mac Assistant helps you choose the appropriate settings for your children.
The Assistant walks you through the configuration process, and explains the types of content that Net Nanny filters, and how this filtering is done.
Net Nanny for Mac lets you choose from three default profiles, and also lets you create custom profiles to filter the exact types of content you want, according to the age and maturity of your users.
