Customer updates to (or installs) 1.8.1 and ContentProtect will not start, browser hangs. User will not be able to right click on the system tray icon or start it via the Start Menu short cut. Solution: Cprotect.exe must be added to the list of allowed internet applications. To do this please do the following:

  • Right click on the McAfee system tray icon (it should be a large Red "M")
  • Open the Security Center
  • From the Left menu, select "Personal Firewall+"
  • From the main window click on "View the Internet Application List"
  • Click on the "New Allowed Application" near the center of the main window
  • This will open a window that will allow the user to browse to the cprotect.exe, browse to Program FlesContentWatch Common and add the cprotect.exe
  • For best results, reboot the computer, but it should also work if you just close McAfee & ContentProtect and restart them
