McAfee Cares - Online Safety for Kids
Wednesday, January 30, 2013, 9:30 AM

McAfee, the internet security company, has teamed up with Everloop, a kid-friendly social media site, to promote online safety among children. Volunteers for the McAfee Cares- Online Safety for Kids program travel to schools to talk to kids about staying safe online and maintaining good ethics in their online behavior. The content of each session is based on the STOP.THINK.CONNECT™ national cybersecurity awareness campaign.
The kids are then encouraged to continue the discussion online on Everloop, where kids are moderated and blocked from posting anything inappropriate or that could identify them. This helps to reinforce the message they were taught at school. Hilary Desare, CEO of Everloop, said that "[o]n Everloop, children share their many thoughts including their online fears. A recent Everloop poll showed kids’ top online fears include stranger danger (22%), privacy protection (20%), and cyber bullying (13%). We are proud to partner with McAfee, the top name in technology security, to bring timely solutions and important news to a generation that both needs and wants it."
If you are concerned about online safety, talk to your kids about your personal expectations for their online behavior. In addition to McAfee and Everloop’s program, parents can utilize Net Nanny Internet filtering software in their arsenal of tools to keep their kids safe online.
I work for Net Nanny and all opinions are my own.
