Chiropractor Visits and Text Messaging

“Mom, my neck hurts!” If your child complained of neck pain, what would you suspect the problem is? Poor pillow support? Anxiety? Texting? As crazy as it sounds, many chiropractors are concluding that text messaging is the root of the problems.
Dr. Terry Smedstad says that in his 30 years of practicing medicine, he has not seen so many kids with these serious of problems. More and more teens are seeking medical attention to alleviate the pain. Chiropractors are beginning to ask their patients about their texting habits. They can be the leading cause of incorrect spine curve and hand pain.
Nowadays, almost everyone had a mobile device, including teenagers. 75 percent of teens have a cell phone. One-third of these teens send at least 100 text messages daily. As comical as it may be, the time spent using a cell phone can damage health!
To prevent these problems from getting worse, Dr. Smedstad suggests exercises for the hands and neck. They can be found here.

So next time you see teenagers texting, inform them of the health dangers of the practice. If you are unsuccessful in convincing them, teach pain-preventing exercises!
